It's not unusual for Ezekiel, to be spending his time all alone with his turtle Oasis in his dormitory of his college. Two more weeks, and class will resume back as per normal. To him, it is sure such a blissful eternity, just to be away from all those drowning tide of waves, that keeps pulling his ship, towards the bottom of the ocean. Enough is enough...Yasmeen is right. To avoid is the best....no trouble, no worries and furthermore, with this sacred moment, doing something which he loves..poems after poems, quotes after quotes, which he significantly had crafted himself. Saif, went back to Lahore, staying with one of his close relatives there, and will be back three days before school opening. Yasmeen, had already went back to the other side of the city state, back with her family. However, they both religiously, keeping contact with each other, almost everyday...exchanging ideas and subjects. Their relationship are getting serious, as both had decides to get engage, after their college convocation.
Knocking of the door, had startle Ezekiel from his afternoon nap. Looking at the wall clock, it was almost half past one. Grabbing his sky blue t-shirt, as he puts it on, before opening the door to welcome the unexpected guest.
"Good day and surprised...surprised !!!" utters Riley, cheerfully much to Ezekiel and yes he was very surprised indeed. Stunned and delightful, cause Ezekiel, kind of missing this new best friend...but on his other flip secret chart....only God knows what !
"You could always call." trails Ezekiel, shaking his head with a smile, but there's no qualms, seeing him does enlightened his heart.
"Won't be a surprised then, if I were to call, and another reason why I don't call because, I just want to check on you." grinned Riley, as he teasingly give a light tap on Ezekiel's head. Ezekiel giggles upon hearing that comment, however deep down inside his soul, he becomes shudder..but no, he's not going to show that dark secret which he was force to conceal.
Riley took a seat on one of the chair, that was place at the corner of Ezekiel's writing area, while Ezekiel makes some instant coffee for both of them. "Eze, there's something which I need to tell you." said Riley, looking remorse, much to Ezekiel's fear...Oh no, does he knows about this?
Ezekiel, breathing gets heavy as he get's nervous, a sick feeling which he hates. "Spill it out." said Ezekiel, in cranking tone.
"Please forgive me, if I might have done you wrong." said Riley, as he shove a seal envelope towards Ezekiel's fingers.
"What's this?" asked Ezekiel curiously in fear, please not a divorce cert or whatsoever. Rang Ezekiel's thought, as he slowly removed the content from the envelope and what a surprised he got.
"A five thousand dollars cheque under my name?" asked Ezekiel, with a frown.
"I'm so sorry Eze....this can't happen again I promised!" cried Riley, looking glum.
"I don't understand, why are you saying sorry, for passing this cheque for me ?" asked Ezekiel again, okay this is something rare....very unexpected twist of event.
"I have...well, I have secretly, published some of your writings without your knowledge." said Riley, as he bit his lower lips.
With a huge sigh of relief, "Only because of that huh? Haahaahaahaa...!!!" laughed Ezekiel, to his heart content, much to Riley's amusement. "Oh come on, you know me. It's fine with me....but you own me one." continue Ezekiel.
"Name it?" asked Riley, with a smile.
"Few rounds of bowling games." replied Ezekiel, shortly with a wink.
Spending fabulous time with Riley is simply the best memoir that Ezekiel will treasure, for the rest of his life. Been with him, he feels so much hope...a true affection of a father and son relationship, a relationship which he was deprive off. Sipping their cola as they watch the colorful, water fountain spraying it's delighted showers of soft light matter around the lake. "You should be home, this is summer holiday, mind you." said Riley. Ezekiel remains silent, with many hidden thoughts of his own. "She miss you. Been wearing that pendant which you have gave her. Eze, you meant so much to her, you have got to belief me, about her on that." continue Riley. "So please, come back soon, before school re-opens." pleads Riley. Ezekiel still remains speechless...but he can't content to break Riley's hope.
"It sure such a wonderful pleasure, seeing you here, been back in our home." utters Eva, as she scoop the salad and gently place it onto Ezekiel's plate. Ezekiel was extremely quiet throughout dinner, much to Riley's surprised. "So maybe later, we could all three, catch a movie somewhere...how's that?" asked Eva, looking hopeful...but that invincible guilt is burning inside her soul. Ezekiel looked straight into his mother's eyes, with anger written statement narrating in them...a warning for Eva, to back off and stop playing nice. Eva look grimace, but he would not care less. Such an excellent script of merry making tales, his mum is projecting, with mask of deception fonts and lies. The compelling pretense of loving, sweet wife towards, Riley the weakling, as that what she had merciless claims, really making Ezekiel, sick to the core. Riley looks so cheerful, as Eva sharing her courageous episodes of new fable, much to Ezekiel, disgust. Was it jealous? A dying notion spring inside his soul. He knew, he can't be feeling this way, he needs to either fight his inner anger and disappointment within himself, or just stand up and leave the table.
"Thanks for this awesome dinner, but I guess, I'm done here." snapped Ezekiel, wryly as he stood, bringing his half finish meal along and headed towards the sink. He knew, Eva is looking hard on him like a hawk. He feels bad towards Riley, but he can't defend his own guilt either.
"Eze." his name was call, and it was his mum. Ezekiel, ignore her calling, as he continue to enjoy the bliss moment of having his feet immersed in the pool. "Hey! I'm talking to you." retort Eva, much to Ezekiel's annoyance.
"What? More lies?" snapped Ezekiel, as he stood up and decides to walk away.
"I'm not finish with you, Eze." cried Eva. "Look, things are getting better between me and Riley, so don't you ever dare try to crush, what I have been craving for." continues Eva, with so much desperation note in her tone. Ezekiel, almost lost his compose, upon hearing those hurtful words been hurl inside his soul, but for the love which he had always felt for his new found friend, Riley..he decides to conclude it by yes...walk away.
Midnight movie and late night supper with Riley is sure such a splendid memoirs...his mum decides not to join along, with an angelic reason, "Both of you need to rebond this relationship." which Riley strongly agrees, but for Ezekiel's perspective, sure lame. Shutting his guilt, far over the end of the closet, he enjoy every moment of it with him. Both sharing each other dreams and hopes, about love and not wanting to live, in any dark illusion circles of films anymore. Unfortunately, a crushing subject of time stillness moment, on Ezekiel's part.
Three days, three noteworthy days, spend mostly with Riley is splendid, thought Ezekiel to himself with a smile, as he gets himself busy packing up his back pack, as he needs to get back to his campus. All of a sudden, he heard a smash broken mirror somewhere, around the study room. Ezekiel heart stood still, as he heard more shouting and yelling, trouble. The chain is broken...everything was set to loose. Without wasting anymore seconds, Ezekiel, rush out from his room and headed straight towards the dreadful commotion. To Ezekiel's horror, Riley was holding up a gun against the temple of his head, with his mum wailing hysterically coaxing him to calm now.
"Riley, come on buddy. We can have a lot more chances to depend on." cried Ezekiel.
"So you do know about this ? How you could, keeping this shit matter in the dark?" screamed Riley, with full of anger and regrets.
"Riley, please let's talk things nicely. Don't waste your life away because of this...just place down the gun." utters Ezekiel, as he fought hard to bring courage back, upon Riley's withered soul, by carefully taking few steps closer towards him.
"I love you Eze....you have always been, my one and only true friend." noun Riley sorrowfully, and without second thought..Bang!!!
"No!!!!" screamed Ezekiel with horror, as blood spluttered against the lilac roses wall paper and towards his light baby lime green shirt. Eva, could not take this trauma, as she too collapse onto the laminate floor. Ezekiel, get a grip on Riley's stillness soul less body, as he begins to weep in silent.
Police, begins to drills questions after questions and this sure dreading, his spirit towards the ground of exhaustion. After finalisation of conclude episode, title suicide...Yasmeen saw him, sitting all alone in the dark corner of the his room,"Eze." called Yasmeen, gently as she pace closer towards him. His eyes were hollow and gone all the cheeriness in them, much to Yasmeen despair, no words were spoken, but dead silent of haunting memories.
Three years had pass, with dangling hopes and perish dreams, on Yasmeen's side of wanting to break Ezekiel's engulfing curse, of breeding guilt and anger. "I can't be me....I can't be me any longer." those last words of Ezekiel, before he hung up and shut himself away from her and from the rest of the world. His FB account has been deleted, his mobile number could no longer be used, his state home was abandon, his mum could no longer reach him either. Yasmeen, now a full time counsellor, with many cases and some are quite compelling, much to her amusement. Been with her family, keeping company with her close friends and indulging herself with hard core cases, do take away the feeling of her lost. But her loneliness is sheer note of uncertain agony, that's creeping inside her soul. Enliven, spirit healing portion however could be felt after Quran reading and prayers.
“Faded fragrance, loams lavender’s will. Long forgotten lullaby, moan spirit qualm. Build fences, enclosing heart. Keeping self worth of secret illusion dreams. Taking chances, for heart breaking notes, lavender’s ground fated to naught.” this message was simply astonishing, but yet it is beautiful, thought Yasmeen to herself, as she received a request, add to be friend on her FB account, with this momentous private message, that was attach along with the request. There were no photo on it’s profile, but a stalk of black and white lavender picture was used. Nevertheless, out of curiosity, Yasmeen accepted the request and soon she begins reading through the info, which unfortunately does not reveal too much of it’s personality.
Yasmeen knew, at times, she do received few request from her patients, however she often try to stay caution as not to jeopardize her career and also her safety. With a huge sigh and a faint smile, she turn off her mini notebook as she headed towards the kitchen, to make herself a cup of tea. Her parents was away, visiting Iman who now has migrated to the other side of the city. Iman, now as an editor who needs to be on the run, now and then. Slowly and cautiously, Yasmeen took few sips of her delightful green tea, when suddenly her mobile phone buzz upon the coffee table. Putting her mug, as she picks up the call.
Stunned, anger and deadened, all emotions accumulating inside her soul, upon hearing that voice again. But on the flip side of her feelings, anxious with joy and relief, begins to be tantalizing her nerve. “Ezekiel.” whispered Yasmeen with tears in her eyes.
“I’m waiting for you at the cafeteria, where we both had our last fish and chips together.” utters Ezekiel with so much gentleness and calmness in his voice. “By the way, thanks for your wonderful accept, hope you like the poetry which I’ve specially written just for you.” he continues.
Yasmeen hungs up, after saying short goodbye and then she begins to ponder, for she can’t exactly recall the name, which Ezekiel had renounce upon himself on his face book account.
Making her journey with leaping heart of carousel, when finally, she reached her fulfill destination. Entering the almost half fill café, as she securely adjust her veil upon her shoulder, while her eyes ponder on each table, as she tries to catch a glimpse of Ezekiel. Strangely, there was not a sign of him anywhere.
"Yasmeen." cried a pleasant voice.
Yasmeen turn to her side and what her vision was seeing right now, was not someone whom she had presume.
"Please forgive me miss, but do I know you?" asked Yasmeen, as she came closer towards the exquisite beauty. Her dark brown wavy hair which stunningly touching her shoulders, those brilliant set of ash brown eyes with an alluring but light scent of rose fragrance lingers upon her curvaceous body. Light make up, which brings out her charm...adding to her bewitching smile.
"Haahaahaa..." she gave a light giggle. "Come on Yasmeen, can't you tell?" she asked, as her eyebrow arch in such a unique angle, just like a model.
"My God....Ezekiel." trembles Yasmeen with a sentiment of unspoken sense.
